Kevin Reindl 2/05/2021 12:02 PMI feel like I am cheating - I have been getting Purple Carrot brand meal ingredients and recipes delivered - this completely eliminates food waste as everything is pre-measured. But the environmental cost may be that it has to be delivered and there is more packaging (although almost all is recyclable). Not sure how long we will stay with this service. -
Kevin Reindl 2/03/2021 9:04 PMSo we broke down and bought a small deep freezer so we can buy in bulk, save more leftovers and freeze things we would otherwise have to throw away. So far so good, but get concerned with the trade off - food waste vs energy consumption. -
Kate Valdivia 2/02/2021 8:06 AMMy husband and I are more conscientious about recipes and portion sizes to cut down on food waste. -
Hilary Haskell 11/12/2020 8:08 AMI just saw this article about how Chipotle now has a tool called "Real Footprint" that allows you to see how ingredients compare with respect to different environmental impact metrics based on their sourcing practices for each. Pretty cool! https://www.esgtoday.com/chipotle-launches-sustainability-tracker-enabling-guests-to-assess-impact-of-orders/ -
Mackenna Kull 11/09/2020 8:24 AMLast night I looked into worm composting for my little patio. I really want to get one but worms gross me out. Any suggestions? -
Kevin Reindl 11/07/2020 6:46 AMMuch more waste than I hoped today, but tried harvesting and juicing wild prickly pear fruit, so had lots of skins left from the fruits - made my worms happy with lots of food for them!! -
Kevin Reindl 11/03/2020 5:53 AMI think I’ve got the food waste down, with any waste going into my vermicompost (worm) bin. My bigger concern is the packaging waste. I am also wondering how the pandemic is changing how we get, eat and plan our food choices...and what impact that has on the planet (e.g., is ordering grocery delivery better than driving to the store yourself)?-
Sarah Feteih 11/05/2020 3:44 PMGreat reflections and questions, Kevin! The Washington Post published this article a few months ago about how our eating, shopping, and cooking habits have changed because of COVID, and what impact that has on food waste in the long-run. I'd recommend checking it out!
